Abraham Lincoln costume
This costume is very well made. There are other Lincoln costumes available which are less expensive, but they are made from a very cheap light weight polyester. This costume, although polyester, is a heavier weight and more resembles a suit. The pants are drawstring, which is an advantage if you are concerned with size. My child is a 7 shirt and 7 slim in pants, and I ordered a small..apparently the costume runs larger. One caveat to mention, however, is that the top hat provided with the costume was extremely large...it covered my son's entire head and rested on his shoulders! This may have been a mistake, but be prepared, you may need a different hat (we used one provided with a cheaper costume which fit his head, at least!)
Fit for a president!
I received this costume yesterday and I am thrilled with the quality of it. I read MANY reviews about other costumes and I was a little worried about the quality of this one. Honestly, I could not have been more pleased. The hat is thick and stands up on its own. This was important to me since the main feature of this costume is the hat! Many other costumes reviews of other brands commented on how their hats are flimsy and needed to filled with paper in order to stay up right. This one needs no stuffing!
The pants and jacket (of course not fitted to my son's size -he is 7 and I ordered a medium) will fit my son just fine even though they are a little big. I was surprised at the quality of the jacket too! The pants are a little thin and cheap, but the jacket makes up for it and will cover the pants anyway!
We have not tried out the beard yet. Knowing my son he won't keep it on very long so I am not too worried about the quality. So long as he wears it for a quick photo op I...
Abraham lincoln costume above average
My son needed to dress up as Lincoln for a school presentation, and this costume was an acceptable choice. The jacket and pants are "real" fabric not cheap "costume grade" polyester--he had to wear the outfit all day in school, so it needed to be substantial. The undershirt/vest is more like a bib, but he wore a long t-shirt underneath (the seams are a bit itchy.) The hat is large and a bit lumpy, but acceptable. I stuffed it with bubble-wrap to give it shape and keep it from falling over his eyes. It was shipped with one of the ties fallen off of it (which needed resewing), and I had to hem the pants and sleeves to fit, but you could probably just bias tape it if you had to. It beats making the whole costume!! I also had to iron it because it was wrinkled. The beard is a bit scruffy, but when you look at some of Lincoln's pictures, it is pretty accurate. We did trim it a little though. Overall it worked for us, although it was not exactly cheap. Too bad he has already...
